Cho Hong-Cheon

Hwang In-Cheol
Abstract
Background: There are few studies which are compared as obesity index for old ages until now. Therefore the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between waist to height ratio and metabolic risks over 65 years old ages.

Methods: The study¡¯s subjects were 157 old ages who visited the health examination center at Ilsan Hospital from May to August, 2007. They were measured height, weight, blood pressure, fasting glucose and total cholesterol. Only 82 subjects were divided into 2 groups using BMI (body mass index). In each group, we compared the relationship between
metabolic risk factors and waist to height ratio.

Results: There was more significant correlation between waist to height ratio and waist circumference rather than systolic blood pressure and fasting glucose. There was only significant correlation between waist to height ratio and fasting glucose in normal BMI group but there were no correlations in obese group.

Conclusion: Three was no relationship between waist to height ratio and metabolic risks factors in Korean elders.
